By the end of the course, students are prepared to decide whether to pursue teacher certification through AUTeach.

Students will have numerous experiences to teach lessons in peer teaching and school-based lab settings. Students will be paired with classroom teachers who have participated in professional development workshops with university faculty to observe problem-based historical inquiry teaching in classroom settings, implement lessons in those settings, and reflect upon pedagogical practice with peers, teachers, and university faculty.

CTSE 4061 is the practicum course designed to provide field-based experience for students to observe a classroom and practice teaching an inquiry arc within it. This course assists students in applying current educational research and instructional strategies to the design of meaningful social studies instruction and assessment. Student will conduct observation in school-based lab settings. Emphasis is placed on holistic unit design that engages students in higher order thought about persistent social issues.

This first course in a two-course sequence for pre-service teachers focuses on second language acquisition (SLA) theory as it relates to creating linguistically and culturally rich learning environments that address the needs of diverse learners in secondary world language classrooms.
